Keeping your balance
Maintain the 70/30 alkaline ratio
Keep a plate composed of approximately 70% alkalinizing foods (green vegetables, ripe fruits, potatoes, almonds, chestnuts) and 30% acidifying foods (animal proteins, cereals, legumes). This ratio, maintains your buffer systems in balance without drawing on your bone mineral reserves.
Monitor urinary pH
Measure your urinary pH once weekly on the second morning urination using test strips. A pH between 6.5 and 7.0 confirms good acid-base balance. Below 6.5, temporarily increase green vegetables and reduce animal proteins for a few days.
Alkalinizing hydration
Drink at least 1.5 liters of low-mineralized water daily (such as Mont Roucous or Montcalm) to support renal elimination of acids. You can add fresh lemon juice in the morning: despite its acidic taste, lemon is alkalinizing once metabolized thanks to its potassium and calcium citrates.
What you can do
Reform your plate toward alkaline
Drastically increase cooked and raw green vegetables (spinach, broccoli, green beans, zucchini), potatoes, sweet potatoes, and ripe bananas. Reduce animal proteins to a single portion per day and temporarily eliminate refined sugars, sodas, and ultra-processed foods which are highly acidifying.
Citrates of alkaline minerals
Take a supplement of magnesium citrate, potassium, and calcium for 2 to 3 months. Citrates are the best absorbed and most alkalinizing form. Lithothamnus (calcareous seaweed) is a natural alternative rich in calcium and alkaline trace elements. Doses are set with your doctor or your naturopath, all the more so if you already take a medication.
Breathing and pulmonary elimination
Practice 10 minutes of deep abdominal breathing morning and evening. The lungs eliminate carbonic acid as CO2: deep and complete breathing accelerates this elimination pathway. Brisk walking in fresh air combines gentle physical activity and optimal pulmonary ventilation.
Remineralizing horsetail and nettle
Field horsetail (Equisetum arvense) is the plant richest in assimilable silica, essential for bone and joint remineralization. Nettle (Urtica dioica) provides iron, magnesium, calcium, and silica. Take them as decoction (2 cups/day) or capsules for 3 months to rebuild your mineral reserves.
Reduce acidifying stimulants
Coffee, black tea, and alcohol are powerful acidifiers. Limit coffee to a maximum of one cup per day and gradually replace it with green tea (less acidifying and rich in antioxidants). Eliminate alcohol during the deacidification period, as it generates acetic acid and overloads the liver.
Daily gentle movement
Practice 30 minutes of walking, yoga, or swimming each day. Moderate exercise promotes acid elimination through perspiration and pulmonary ventilation, while stimulating lymphatic circulation. Avoid intense sports that produce lactic acid and temporarily worsen tissue acidosis.
What you can do
Alkalize over 3 months
Adopt an 80% alkalinizing diet for at least 3 months: green vegetables at every meal (steamed gently to preserve minerals), potatoes, sweet potatoes, bananas, soaked almonds, sprouted seeds. Completely eliminate refined sugars, sodas, alcohol, coffee, and reduce animal proteins to a maximum of 3 times per week.
The minerals you can add
Take daily: magnesium citrate, potassium citrate, lithothamnus (for calcium and trace elements), spirulina (for iron and alkaline minerals). A supplement of potassium bicarbonate (1 teaspoon in a glass of water) can provide rapid relief in case of acute crisis. Doses are set with your doctor or your naturopath, all the more so if you already take a medication.
Renal and sudoral support
Stimulate your 2 main pathways for acid elimination: kidneys through abundant hydration (2 liters of water/day) and diuretic herbal teas (birch, pilosella), and skin perspiration through hot baths, infrared saunas, or moderate physical exercise. Perspiration is an often-neglected but very effective pathway for acid elimination.
Remineralizing and drainage phytotherapy
Combine field horsetail (silica, remineralization), stinging nettle (minerals, alkalization), and blackcurrant buds (Ribes nigrum, natural anti-inflammatory). Take in a 3-month cure: horsetail decoction 2 cups/day, nettle in capsules, blackcurrant bud macerate morning and noon. Doses are set with your doctor or your naturopath, all the more so if you already take a medication.
Urgent naturopathic consultation
A score this high requires personalized professional support. A naturopath can assess your metabolic capacity to oxidize weak acids (lemon tolerance test), measure your 24-hour urinary pH, and adapt the deacidification program to your constitution (sanguine, bilious, nervous, or lymphatic according to Hippocrates).
Stress management and restorative sleep
Chronic stress is a powerful acidification factor through cortisol and lactic acid production. Establish a daily relaxation routine (cardiac coherence 3 times 5 minutes/day, meditation, gentle yoga). Go to bed before 11 pm to promote nocturnal tissue regeneration and renal acid elimination which is maximal during deep sleep.

This result is an educational naturopathic self-assessment. It is neither a diagnosis nor medical advice, and it does not replace a consultation. Only a health professional can confirm or rule out a disorder. If symptoms persist, or if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or on any treatment, talk to your doctor before taking any supplement or herbal preparation, and never stop a treatment without medical advice.
How to read this test
Assess whether you show signs of chronic acidosis. In naturopathy, chronic acidosis is one reading of demineralization, fatigue and joint pain.
It evaluates your level of tissue acidification, a frequent imbalance in modern diets rich in animal proteins, refined sugars, and processed foods. Chronic acidosis promotes demineralization, inflammation, and fatigue.
Strengths
- Quick evaluation of acid-base terrain
- Awareness of acidifying dietary habits
- Guides toward more alkalinizing diet
Limitations
- Does not measure blood or urinary pH
- Tissue acidosis remains a debated concept in conventional medicine
- Some symptoms are common to other imbalances
