When I was a flight attendant, the cabin pressurized at 2400 meters altitude, recycled air, 180 passengers coughing: it was a flying petri dish. I got sick every third layover, colds, sore throats, sinusitis. Since I discovered this immunity juice (carrot, orange, turmeric, ginger), not a single cold in five years of flying.

Bioactive molecules
Turmeric’s curcumin is very poorly absorbed on its own (less than 1%), but black pepper’s piperine inhibits hepatic glucuronidation and multiplies its bioavailability by 2,000¹. Ginger’s gingerols inhibit COX-2 and 5-lipoxygenase, the two key enzymes in the inflammatory cascade². Carrot’s beta-carotene and orange’s vitamin C create a synergistic antioxidant shield³. Curcumin modulates NF-kB, the central transcription factor of chronic inflammation⁴.
Carrot, orange, fresh turmeric and ginger. A concentrate of carotenoids and natural anti-inflammatories to support the immune system.
My homemade juice combining the best immune-stimulating ingredients: citrus vitamin C, ginger zinc, cabbage glucosinolates, carrot beta-carotene. One glass each morning from November to March to get through winter without any issues.
Key micronutrients table
| Micronutrient | Main role |
|---|---|
| Beta-carotene | Vitamin A precursor, integrity of mucous membranes (1st immune barrier) |
| Vitamin C | White blood cell production, adrenal support |
| Curcumin | Powerful anti-inflammatory, NF-kB modulation |
| Piperine | Multiplies curcumin bioavailability by 2000% |
| Gingerol | Anti-inflammatory, stimulates peripheral circulation |
| Potassium | Major electrolyte, supports kidney function |
Cold press extraction
Ingredients:
- 1 piece of fresh turmeric (5 cm)
- 1 piece of ginger (3 cm)
- 1/4 pineapple
- 1 pinch of black pepper
Turmeric stains everything: wear gloves and clean the extractor immediately after use. Always add a pinch of black pepper to activate the curcumin (x2000 absorption).
My personal thoughts
Turmeric’s curcumin is very poorly absorbed on its own: less than 1% enters the bloodstream because the liver neutralizes it immediately through glucuronidation. Black pepper’s piperine inhibits this hepatic glucuronidation and slows intestinal elimination. Result: curcumin remains intact longer in the blood. Reference study: Shoba et al. (1998, Journal of Clinical Pharmacology), bioavailability multiplied by 2000%. This is why the pinch of black pepper in this juice is not optional: it’s essential.
My recommended extractor
For this recipe, I use the Hurom H330P. Cold pressing preserves the entirety of enzymes, vitamins and phytonutrients that a centrifuge’s heat would destroy.
