The Day-After-Party Juice

New Year’s Eve celebrations, champagne, foie gras, excess in every way. The next morning, January 1st, headache, nausea, coated tongue. I dragged myself to the kitchen and prepared my hepatic detox juice: beet, carrot, black radish, lemon, ginger.

The bioactive molecules

The beet restarts circulation thanks to nitrates converted into nitric oxide, a vasodilator¹. Black radish contracts the gallbladder (cholagogue effect) and accelerates the evacuation of bile loaded with alcohol toxins². Lemon chelates lost minerals and provides vitamin C to regenerate hepatic glutathione depleted by alcohol³. Ginger calms nausea by acting on 5-HT3 receptors in the intestine, the same mechanism as pharmaceutical antiemetics⁴.

Beet, carrot, black radish and lemon. A juice made with a cold press extractor designed to support the liver’s detoxification functions, the naturopath’s first emunctory.

This formula combines the best hepatic ingredients in a single recipe. It’s my signature juice for patients whose liver is overloaded. Dark circles, yellowed complexion, nighttime awakenings, morning fatigue: after 3 weeks of this daily juice, the transformation is spectacular.

Cold press extractor preparation

Ingredients:

  • 3 organic carrots
  • 1 small raw beet
  • 1 peeled lemon
  • 1 piece of ginger (3 cm)

Start with half a glass if you’re not used to raw juices. The beet can cause a detox reaction (colored stools, slight nausea): this is normal and temporary.

For this recipe, I use the Hurom H320N. Cold pressing preserves all the enzymes, vitamins and phytonutrients that the heat from a centrifuge would destroy.
