Raw potato juice is one of the oldest naturopathic remedies against gastritis and reflux. I make it regularly when my stomach needs reminding. It’s a powerful alkalizing juice that neutralizes excess hydrochloric acid and coats the gastric mucosa with a protective film. The taste is neutral, slightly earthy, not unpleasant at all.

The bioactive molecules
Raw potato juice is one of the oldest naturopathic remedies against gastritis and reflux. The alkaline pH neutralizes excess hydrochloric acid and coats the gastric mucosa with a protective film¹. Protease inhibitors reduce gastric inflammation². Potassium (421 mg/100 g) regulates acid-base balance³. Resistant starch selectively feeds the bifidobacteria of the colon⁴.
Raw potato contains protease inhibitors that reduce gastric inflammation, potassium (421 mg/100g) that regulates acid-base balance, vitamin C (if consumed raw and fresh), and resistant starch that feeds the good bacteria of the colon. The alkaline pH of the juice (approximately 5.5-6.0) directly buffers gastric acidity. Japanese studies (Vlachojannis et al., Phytotherapy Research, 2010) show significant improvement in dyspeptic symptoms after 1 week of daily potato juice.
Potato juice is a leading gastric alkalizer. Resistant starch feeds the microbiota and protease inhibitors protect the mucosa. To be drunk pure, on an empty stomach in the morning, 15 cl for 2 to 3 weeks in case of gastritis or reflux.
Key micronutrients table
| Micronutrient | Main role |
|---|---|
| Potassium (421 mg/100g) | Alkalizing, blood pressure regulator |
| Vitamin C (20 mg/100g raw) | Antioxidant, mucosal healing |
| Vitamin B6 | Energy metabolism, nervous system |
| Resistant starch | Prebiotic, feeds colonic microbiota |
| Protease inhibitors | Gastric anti-inflammatory |
Preparation with an extractor
Ingredients:
- 2 medium organic potatoes (~300 g)
- 3 organic carrots
- 1/4 white cabbage
Don’t throw away the dry residues after extraction! Potato pulp makes excellent poultices. Apply the fresh pulp in a thick layer on the skin, cover with cloth and leave for 30 minutes. The starch absorbs heat and solanidine soothes inflammation. Uses: sunburn and minor burns, puffy eyes and dark circles (slices on the eyelids), hemorrhoids, eczema and itching, sprains and joint pain, headaches (poultice on the temples).

For this recipe, I use the Hurom H330P. Cold pressing preserves all the enzymes, vitamins and phytonutrients that the heat of a centrifuge would destroy.
